The Northern Virginia Rowing Club will sponsor a junior girls program
that will be headed by Bill Randall, rowing coach at West Springfield High
School, former varsity lightweight coach at the US Coast Guard Academy, and
a member of the 1987 US National Team. Ron Lim, a TJ coach for over 19
years; Matt Shoop, the TJ Head coach; and Mark Hemphill, the WSHS Varsity
Women's coach will also be on the coaching staff.
The program will provide an opportunity for experienced high school girls
(at least one year of experience required and two is preferred) to row in
eights, quads and maybe even an octuple on the Occoquan River. This is not a
Learn-to-Row program. Join us for a fall rowing program dedicated to
improving skills, getting in lots of miles, and compete in some of the local
head races.
The program will run from Wednesday 3 September 2008 to Saturday 1
November 2008. Practices will be held four days a week: Monday,
Wednesdays and Thursday from 4:30 to 6:45 pm and Saturdays
from 10:00 am to 12:30 pm at the Sandy Run Rowing Facility on the Occoquan
River. Early registrants get preference in the event the program fills. The
program will be limited to ensure we have equipment and coaching for all and
is currently over 1/2 full. Thanks! Bill Randall

The Northern Virginia Rowing Club (NVRC) is again the place to go
for adults to learn sweep rowing on the Occoquan River in the Summer. A
June learn-to-row introductory session (teaching novices to row by eights
with experienced rowers) is followed by a July/August session (where novices
and experienced rowers get their own boats) and then a September/October and
regattas session (where novices, recreational and competitive rowers all row
boats in the fall regattas). For further information the NVRC web site is
currently under construction at ROW4NVRC.COM and you may contact Sandy
Spooner at 703-922-8555 or Clint Spooner at
